Tele-health Counseling

While an in-person human connection cannot be fully replicated online, telehealth provides quality mental health support reducing logistical limitations. For many clients, having the option to engage safely and conveniently from home improves consistency in managing mental health. With professional counselors skilled in teletherapy techniques, virtual sessions can transform lives.

Here are some mental health concerns and situations that are well-suited for telehealth counseling:

Anxiety Tools for managing anxiety like CBT can be easily implemented remotely. Convenience reduces cancellations.
Depression Allows for consistent support and check-ins regarding mood and motivation.
Stress Fits conveniently into busy schedules and private space reduces environmental stressors.
Relationship Discussing relationship dynamics works very well remotely and convenience increases regularity.
Sleep issues Flexibility makes it easier to schedule later evening appointments when insomnia is most salient.
OCD Can complement in-person ERP treatment with more regular check-ins on obsessive thoughts.
Addiction Frequent meetings can provide consistent accountability and support with recovery goals.
PTSD Emotional regulation skills can be reinforced regularly between in-person EMDR sessions.
Life transitions Changing jobs, moves, pregnancies, etc. benefit from conveniently-scheduled supplemental support.
Physical limitations Helps those with limited mobility or transportation access receive care.

Is Telehealth Counseling Secure?

We use two software systems to deliver telehealth counseling: SimplePractice and Doxy.me. They utilize powerful security measures to protect privacy during telehealth counseling sessions. Here is an overview:

Encryption All video sessions and chats are encrypted end-to-end preventing unauthorized access.

Secure servers Data is stored only on HIPAA-compliant servers safeguarding information.

Authentication Clients access portals via unique usernames and strong passwords changed regularly.

No recording Video sessions cannot be recorded or stored without explicit consent.

Firewalls Video traffic is secured behind enterprise-grade firewall systems.

Compliance Regular independent audits validate HIPAA and HITECH compliance.

By leveraging data encryption, access restrictions, secure infrastructure, and strict audits, telehealth platforms maintain ironclad protections so client data stays private allowing for safe virtual engagement.

Can I do phone sessions instead of video sessions?

Phone sessions can certainly be accommodated as an alternative to video conferencing for telehealth if that is a better fit based on the client's needs and preferences. The counselor is happy to provide phone appointments when the visual component is not optimal for the client. However, some insurance plans only cover teletherapy when the video portion is included as part of the session. In that case, the phone sessions would need to be billed at the counselor's self-pay rate. But details around coverage should not prevent the client from accessing care in the modality that allows them to engage most comfortably. The counselor and client can collaborate to determine billing specifics accordingly. Finding the right telehealth platform is the priority, whether video or phone based. The counselor aims to provide flexible options focused on the client's ideal mode of connection and support. Open communication is encouraged to ensure the client can access care in the way that works best for them.
